The Lherbette knapsack is copied from original specs and examination of an original knapsack. This knapsack has a blue painted flap with a white circle and "US" in red letters. It has one large pocket closed with a buckle and strap and a second envelope with center opening in the flap.

This knapsack is based on the article published by Fred Gaede in the Company of Military Historian's Journal. This knapsack has extensive hand work in the construction of the bag. This is knapsack come with the hand sewn leather back straps. This was was a copied by the confederates (N. B. Johnston, 1st Virginia Artillery, ANV).
The knapsack is described as a "fold over type knapsack; made of oil cloth covered canvas," a style commonly attributed to Confederate use.
